Lesson #83
Using “Systems Thinking”
Using “Systems Thinking”
by Jim Katsoulis
Introduction
When it comes to our behaviors, it can be very easy to focus solely on the behavior we want to change. But, it’s more helpful to see your behaviors as part of a related system. And this is what’s referred to as “systems thinking”.
The beauty of thinking in terms of systems is that you see other behaviors that are causing the bad ones and they’re easier to change. For example, if you have the habit not eating during the day to avoid calories, you might find yourself starving at night and binge eat. So, the habit of not eating during the day is causing the overeating, and if you change it you will change the overeating.
