Increasing Your Awareness

Introduction

When you increase your awareness of how foods make you feel in the short and long term, you’re going to find your eating habits and cravings changing automatically.

It’s one thing to know logically what foods you should and shouldn’t eat, it’s a completely different thing to feel in your gut that overeating makes you lethargic and uncomfortable.

You create this awareness simply by focusing your attention on how you feel after you eat. Eliminate distractions for a few minutes and notice how your breathing has been affected, notice if you have any pressure or discomfort in your stomach area, pay attention to your energy levels, etc.The more you connect to the feelings of bad food decisions the easier it is to avoid them.

Also, connect to the long term results of poor food choices, what will be the outcome of overeating at most dinners in 6 mos, 1 year, 5 years, etc. Begin thinking in this way because it is more effective than just focusing on the weight.
